Running for Iowa House District 33
As your representative for Iowa House District 33, Lynn will focus on three key priorities: 1) Hammer Down Property Taxes: Keep families, workers, and seniors from being taxed out of their homes. 2) Protect Victims and Strengthen Public Safety: Fight domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault while supporting victims and holding offenders accountable. 3) Stand Up for Workers and Working Families: Support good-paying jobs, workforce training, and economic opportunity for everyday Iowans. Lynn Hammel is not a career politician — he is a lifelong Iowan who believes in hard work, personal responsibility, faith, and serving the community. Raised on a small dairy farm in Northeast Iowa, Lynn grew up helping care for cows, chickens, and sheep. Farm life taught him the value of early mornings, stewardship, perseverance, and working together to get the job done. Today, Lynn works in information technology, helping organizations solve problems, improve systems, and navigate an ever-changing digital world. He is also the founder of BarrelsIowa.com, a small Iowa business that builds and installs rain barrels to help homeowners conserve water and care for God’s creation. Since 2019, Lynn has also been an active beekeeper. Lynn has spent decades serving his community and supporting local organizations. He served six years as Treasurer of the Fairmont Park Neighborhood Association, helping strengthen finances and coordinate donations of school supplies for local students. He has also served as a church Deacon and Treasurer and has volunteered with numerous nonprofit organizations throughout Central Iowa. His community leadership includes serving as webmaster for the Central Iowa Beekeepers Association, leading the monthly Des Moines East Side Business Breakfast, serving four years on the Republican Party of Iowa State Central Committee, and working as a caucus chair in his district. Lynn has also coached youth softball and soccer for more than a decade. Lynn and his wife Judy — his best friend of more than 30 years — have lived on the east side of Des Moines since 1995. Together they raised five children, ages 27 to 19, with three still living at home. Their family shares a deep commitment to faith, service, and community. Their children have pursued careers ranging from skilled trades to banking, and each has developed an entrepreneurial spirit through running home-based businesses. Through his work, family life, and years of community involvement, Lynn understands the challenges facing Iowa families, homeowners, workers, and seniors living on fixed incomes. Rising property taxes are putting increasing pressure on households across the state. Lynn is running for Iowa House District 33 to bring common-sense leadership to the Capitol, protect homeowners, strengthen Iowa families, and deliver results for Iowa.
